Your event is very important to you.  Whether you are planning a wedding, an anniversary celebration or a corporate event in the Raleigh/Durham area, you need to know the planner that you are using is someone you can trust.  Knowing and understanding what is to be expected from an event planner can get you the service you deserve.

4 questions to ask before hiring an event planner:

  • How Much Do You Charge? The range of fees vary greatly from one event planner to another so never “assume” what you will pay. It is important that you know ALL fees upfront.  Make sure to ask details about what is covered under the stated fee. That fee should be the only check you write, covering everything from the venue and catering, to florists, entertainment, invitations, rehearsal dinners, and so on. Having a planner that charges a “flat fee” for all services is the simplest and saves you from any surprises in the future.
  • What Experience Do You Have? Reviewing the planners’ websites is a great place to start to find out their previous experience. You should ask for samples of flower arrangements, place settings, lighting design and so on.  Ask them to provide photos of their previous events and to provide a number of references that you can speak with directly.
  • How Soon Do We Need To Start Planning? At your very first meeting, ensure that the planner can meet your schedule needs.  Ask detailed questions about their expectations from you as well.  This is the perfect time to learn how detail oriented your planner is.  When planning an important event, it is imperative that you have a planner that is extremely organized and timely.  Having a detailed schedule is of utmost importance.
  • What is your company philosophy? It is important to know that the person you are hiring has values that are in sync with your own. You will be working closely with this individual during a very important event in your life.  Planning an event can be high stress so it is important that there are no surprises along the way.  Your initial meeting is the time to discuss things that may be considered a “deal breaker” or things that are a must for you.
